Tony began umpiring Little League Baseball and Softball in 1997 on the suggestion of his church pastor. The local league was looking for umpires and after several discussions with his pastor, he attended a rules and field mechanics clinic prior to the start of that season.
Tony became the local league UIC after a couple of years. Training and developing umpires began his passion for not only the league, but for the game. Tony was selected and umpired at the Texas West State Tournament in 2003. After taking several years off to coach his oldest grandsons Little League teams, he returned to umpiring where he was selected to umpire the 2019, 2020, and 2023 Texas West State Tournament in softball.
Tony became the District 19 Umpire Consultant in 2018 when Bruce Marburger retired from district operations to focus on the Southwest Region Umpire and Little League International umpire programs. Working closely with the regional staff will ensure the training programs prepare umpires for the next level of tournament play.
As the consultant, Tony and the umpire staff share the passion to train/develop umpires to advance to post-season level of play and who will continue the traditions District 19 has established. District 19 has a long and successful history of sending umpires to all baseball and softball divisions of the Little League World Series.
